The Moon-Shell of Coral Cove
🔊 Listen to this story
In Coral Cove, where the waves hummed soft lullabies, lived a playful sea otter pup named Pebble, who loved shiny things more than anything else. His best friend, a little clownfish named Nettle, owned a special moon-shell that glowed like a tiny lantern every night, lighting the whole reef so the fish could sleep safely.
One sunny afternoon, Nettle let Pebble hold the moon-shell just to look at it, but Pebble got so excited that he tossed it up like a ball. It slipped from his paws, bounced off a rock, and cracked with a soft clink. Frightened, Pebble quickly hid the shell under a curl of green seaweed and swam away.
That night, the cove stayed dark for the first time ever. Little fish bumped into coral, crabs lost their way home, and even the moon jellyfish drifted about, confused. Pebble watched his friends stumble in the shadows, and his heart felt heavier than a stone.
Taking a deep breath, Pebble swam to Nettle and told her everything — how he broke the shell and hid it out of fear. Nettle's eyes filled with tears, but she hugged him and said, "Thank you for telling me. Now we can fix it together." With help from old Grandpa Turtle, who mixed pearl dust and starlight glue, they mended the shell, and it glowed brighter than ever.
From that night on, Pebble always remembered how good it felt to tell the truth, even when it was hard. And Coral Cove sparkled every evening, lighting the way home for every little creature in the sea.
